FAQ - What's an e-session (Engagement Session)?

The engagement session, commonly called an e-session, is an opportunity for the bride-to-be and groom-to-be to take photos in a location that is special to them. It gives all of us (The photographer, the couple, or any animals they decide to bring along ;) an opportunity to get to know each other better.

This is a chance for you to show the world your personalities. You can share this through what you wear and where you do your session at.

This is such a great opportunity for us to make a connection with you before the actual wedding day. We can get a good feel for your personalities, what you like about our photography and it gives you a chance to become more comfortable being in front of the camera without the stress of the wedding day.

There is not a lot of time on that all important day for you to get comfortable with the camera. If you already know what to expect it can add precious minutes to making photos where you look comfortable and not tense.

Outside of having some awesome photos to share with your friends there are some many other uses. You can use your e-session photos for things like your wedding website (if you have one), your save the date, Facebook, in a guest book, a slideshow at the wedding or some other creative way.

You can see where Beth and Kyle used one of their photos in a frame for all of their guests to sign.

The best time to do an e-session is in the late afternoon as the sun is just starting to set or the early morning when it's rising. The natural light makes for absolutely gorgeous photos! Don't worry if it's rainy or overcast though, we love a challenge and can make it work.

Another thing about e-sessions is that they are a perfect opportunity for the bride to give her wedding day hair and makeup a run through.

When it comes to outfit choices for your engagement sessions you want to show your personality. We love it when our couples dress up and you can always bring a second outfit with you. Nice jeans and a dressy top work great also! You can check out our blog post of what to wear to your engagement session or see some other samples of e-sessions.
