Thinking Different: Themed Weddings

When you picture a wedding in your mind, what do you envision? Is it red rose centerpieces, crystals delicately cascading from the ceiling, or identical bridesmaid dresses?

What if it were mad hatters for groomsmen complete with goggles and tails, an aisle full of zany guests each holding a pastel parasol, hedges in the shape of whimsical animals, or a wedding cake designed with a pocket watch and tea pot along the exterior?

The whimsical wedding of Jessica and Wade took place a couple hundred feet beneath the rabbit hole. The wedding was filled with wonder and imagination, something only a truly unique couple could dream up. The Alice in Wonderland themed wedding was held at the Bok Tower Gardens, a true wonderland on earth. A location surreal yet fitting, eccentric yet romatic, lavish yet personable.

The groomsmen took top hats and coattails (literally- tails) to a whole new level. Goggles and pocketwatches were the accessories of choice.

Themed weddings reflect the unique personalities of the bride and groom, and can be as eccentric as falling down the rabbit hole or have a more subtle feel.

The wedding of Molly and Josh was set along the quaint Lake Formosa in Orlando one sunny afternoon, and had a vintage picnic ambiance. The wedding featured milk men as servers, hula hoops for the little tykes, vintage attire, and a romantic boat ride as the happy couple left the reception. The wedding and reception were filled with care-free smiles and sheer bliss, reminiscent of a simpler time.

Thinking Different - The Vintage Suit mixed with some Steampunk Menswear

Even if you don’t decide to take it as far as a theme like Alice in Wonderland, the vintage suit transports your wedding down it’s own rabbit hole of time and class. When you look back on the fashions of the 1920s, 30s, and 40s, one of the first things you notice is the impeccable taste in men’s suits. Double breasted, three piece, long coats, and bow ties were just a few of the components making men as handsome as the classic movie stars. So why not take advantage of the vintage suit for the groom?

A nice compliment to the suit is the top hat. Not only will the groom be able to tip his hat to the bride like a true gentleman, but it also adds an aura reminiscent of Jane Austen’s Mr. Darcy, who is the quintessential dream man. Bowler hats, fedoras, and material caps for each groomsmen let’s them stand out in their own way. Just make sure there isn’t any scrapping over the fedora!

Glasses became as much of a fashion sense as the top hat. If there happens to be a bespectacled member of the groomsmen, you can add a monocle attachment to really complete the outfit (These monocle's are actually modern creations from the fictional steampunk era. You can find them at the Steampunk Emporium. Steampunk is a style of futuristic Victorian.). The glasses can even hang from a chain if there isn’t anyone who wears glasses already.



As Victorian as this all sounds, there is still plenty of room for originality! Splashes of color on the lapels, shirts, and ties can send the period stamp of the vintage suit right back to the future. The period stamp of the suits also allow for themes where the style might have been featured.

Alice in Wonderland features some of the most unique clothing right from the era we consider vintage. If you’re looking for coat tails, why not go right for the Cheshire cat’s tail? Not only does the lucky guy who gets to wear the tail get to show off, but also he can really have fun with the character by riddling his way through the day.



Everyone gets to have some flair thanks to the wide variety of the times and fashions then, now and in a time that didn't exist. Sometimes the oldies but goodies are all it takes to make your wedding unique.
