Toto, we're home. Home!

There are properties around children that if we could comprehend, we could advance society by light years.

One of those is the constant energy factor. If I didn't stop my older son and put him into bed, I really don't think he would ever go to sleep. If we could harness this energy, imagine what could be accomplished in a 24hour day.

The second is their ability to warp time. I could swear something happened yesterday, but in reality it was months ago!

With that said I don't think chaos could describe my life enough over almost the past year. It all started just before my second son was born in September. A second child doesn't just change things by times two, but closer to tenfold. The biggest issue is that when one is sleeping, the time that I would get most of my work done, the other needs attention. Whole days would just fly by!

The next major announcement came in January. Out of the blue came a phone call, which seems to be how most life changing events seem to come to me, to offer me the Photo Editor position at the Hays Daily News.

My wife is from Kansas and we had been talking about getting back family, but it mostly involved moving to Colorado in five years. This was happening now! We packed up the house, put it up for sale, and moved just in time to be welcomed to Kansas by 17in of snow (The second most in history of Hays). Living in Florida for 11 years, I had missed snow and actually loved it!

Pilster Photography has always been ready to travel anywhere in the galaxy, so now Florida has become our travel destination instead of our location. I am planning to be back in October and December, so if you are looking for some family portraits book your real life sessions now!

I've included a little bit of what I've been up to in Kansas.

I Do Downtown Bridal Crawl at Ceviche Tapas Bar and Restaurant, Orlando, Florida During the I Do Downtown Bridal Crawl

The “I Do Downtown Bridal Crawl” is an annual event where excited new brides get to explore some of the awesome and unique downtown venues to ensure that their special day is everything they could have ever imagined and more!

Everyone had a chance to dabble with the prospect of unique honeymoon destinations along with meeting photographers, videographers, DJs, and others! But, that’s not all! The “I Do Downtown Bridal Crawl” also had statement accessories on display for brides who are still looking for a little flair to compliment their gown! There were some gorgeous flower arrangements and wonderful melodies of Central Florida's musicians!

I would definitely recommend liking their Facebook page and checking out their website to find out when their next awesome event will be! Make sure to bring some comfy shoes and your best attitude to this event - it’s a ton of fun!

Check them out on their website or visit them on Facebook!

Wild Magnolia Albums available now at Pilster Photography!

When we first ran across these albums we fell in LOVE! They are so unique compared to anything else we have seen out there. One of the most unique things is their 10x15 album.

If you love a more antique "look and feel" for your photo albums, or if you are an environmentally conscious couple, the Wild Magnolia album might be just what you've been searching for!  Made all natural with an organic vintage cover, the 100% hemp canvas cover features one panoramic image wrapped around the entire album, front and back.

Offered in 10 x 10 sizes, the natural process involved in the creation of the Wild Magnolia paper creates a natural textured image, and is treated with a light archival fixatif to prevent ruboff.

The inside cover features a gorgeous black and white wild magnolia design silk-screened onto cream lokta paper, a material known for its soft and cottony feel.

Each album includes 18 full page spreads, or 36 sides, with the option to add more at an additional cost.  There are no seams or spaces in between pages, so designs can be spread easily and aesthetically across the page fold!

This album is truly a beautiful, not to mention environmentally friendly, option with a rustic antique feel - literally!  It certainly is a perfect way to preserve the memories of your special day.

Outside the Ballroom: The Beacham & The Social

If you're looking for an original venue to hold your event at, or just a unique atmosphere to do a photoshoot, I encourage you to explore your interests and personality, and find something that caters to that!   For the music lover, a concert venue like The Beacham provides exactly this kind of edge. There are several ways concert venues can express personality; walls covered in posters and concert fliers provide a great background for a couple that either plays or loves music.

The gorgeous building, built in 1922, features brick walls and 40 foot ceilings that contribute to a rustic feel.  The beautiful sun-painted wall chandeliers make for perfect lighting and photo opportunities.

Inside the Beacham is a stairway to another venue, The Social, giving you that "underground music scene" vibe.  The Beacham is multilevel, offering green rooms and breakout areas, making it easy to provide cocktail rooms, or characterize the spacious first level floor your own way.

Everything you need to know to book the event of a lifetime at The Beacham:

Outside the Ballroom: This is a series about discovering other amazing venues that exist for weddings and other events, ranging from castles, to traditional antique ballrooms, to bed and breakfasts, to anything that cannot be classified as a modern ballroom or meeting room. We also want to hear from you about the venues you've discovered, so please submit them in comments or email them to info@pilsterphotography.net with Outside the Ballroom in the subject. For more information you can find it in the Introduction.
